2017 Planner Lineup | Featuring The Happy Planner and Recollections Planner

Hi everyone! Happy 2017! I hope the year has started off well with you. I don’t know about you, but one of my goals this year is to continue getting organized. Between the 5-year old’s busy schedule, doctor/dentist appointments, surgeries, and simply growing my business, life is CAH-RAZY! Can I get an amen?!?
Planners

It’s Planner Time!

I’ve used planners in the past simply because I needed somewhere to jot down the 1.2 billion ideas that come through this brain. I’m telling you, my brain can get so overwhelmed. To do lists, ideas for artwork, scripture, and dreams for the house/garden…A girl’s gotta have somewhere to put everything. If you get on Instagram and search for #planner, you will be inspired but overwhelmed at the possibilities. Planners have moved pass writing checklists and appointments. Now there are tons of sticker options for decorating. In other words, the scrapbooking world has taken over the planner world.

Honestly, I would love to do bullet journaling. But, I don’t have time for that. And, I love the Erin Condren planners, especially because there are a ton of Etsy stores that cater specifically to that brand, creating full box stickers, cute checkboxes, and art deco stickers so you can decorate a planner spread (a week at a glance) or even a monthly spread (a month at a glance) to your heart’s content. However, I cannot justify spending anywhere from $55 to $90 for a planner that will be finished by the end of the year.

Solution: The Happy Planner™

It just so happened that Michaels was having a planner sale, and all planners were 50%. I ended up purchasing a BIG Happy Planner™, Mini Happy Planner™, and a Recollections™ binder planning system. I also picked up some Create365 sticker booklets to decorate my planners. I’m using the mini planner for my personal planner. The larger planner will be for my daily Bible sketch noting. (A lot of people have expressed an interest in that, so I plan on a future post with video on that process.) The binder is for my creative journey goals.

Waiting Well (Word Art Wednesdays)

Welcome to another Word Art Wednesday. This week I decided to illustrate a quote from a book I’m reading, Wait and See: Finding Peace in God’s Pauses and Plans, by Wendy Pope.

ArtSnacks November Unboxing (Video)

Today I’m sharing my initial reaction to the products in the ArtSnacks November 2016 box. This is my second month to purchase a box, and so far I am impressed. First, I’m a sucker for art supplies. Second, I love getting stuff each month. Third, the box is right up my alley with supplies I’ll actually use.

Proverbs 31:25 (Word Art Wednesdays)

This week’s word art comes from Proverbs 31. Most Christian women are familiar with this passage, as it is often studied to see what kind of woman God desires for us to be. My favorite verse from this passage is verse 25: “She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future.”

Sunday Sketchnotes: Mark 4:1-9, 13-20

Welcome to Sunday Sketchnotes!

Every Sunday I’m going to attempt to share different sketchnotes I’ve completed. I’ve posted many of these on my personal Facebook account as well as Instagram, and they always get a lot of positive feedback and many questions. I’ll try my best to share my thought process as I complete these.

Links: The Parable of the Sower (Mark 4:1-9, 13-20)

This week I’m sharing an older sketchnote. In fact, this one dates back to April 2016. Our pastor was preaching a series titled “Links.” I think this is one of my favorite sketchnotes I’ve completed recently.

Halloween Countdown Door Hanger

Halloween Chalkboard Countdown

Once upon a time there was a sad pumpkin door hanger. The door hanger’s owner (yours truly) painted it with good intentions but ended up hating it.

Halloween Chalkboard Countdown: BEFORE
Now, some may think this a good door hanger. I, on the other hand, never liked it. The colors were too 1970s for me, and I absolutely abhorred the swirl border. Not my style. Don’t even mention the fact that I painted the pumpkin upside down!

Fast forward two years.

This sad pumpkin has been sitting in my shop, begging to be displayed. So, what does a girl do? Paint over it, of course! (more…)

My Favorite Halloween Movies

favehalloweenmovies-longweb

I absolutely love this time of year. Keep in mind that I love the fun, playful side of Halloween, not the “Freddy Kruger” side of Halloween. I’m kind of a big wimp. Case in point: When I was in the 7th grade, I spent Halloween night at a friend’s house. We stayed up and watched several classic Halloween movies (Friday the 13th, Child’s Play, etc.). I had nightmares for days. Even movies like Scream left me very freaked out.

Therefore, I don’t go to Haunted Houses or watch the latest horror movie at the theaters. Instead, I enjoy Halloween by watching a few of my favorite family-friendly movies, visiting a nearby pumpkin patch, and carving pumpkins.

A Few of My Favorite Halloween Movies

Here are a few of my favorite Halloween-inspired movies that I enjoy this time every year, in no particular order. (more…)

Mowing the Grass (and Pressing Onward)

“I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.” Philippians 3:12-14 (NLT)

Mowing the Grass-1

Today I mowed the grass.

Yeah, I know. Not a big deal. You’re right. Totally not a big deal.

Unless you don’t have a lawnmower. And you are completely dependent on others to mow your grass for you. And your heart’s desire was to use an old-timey mower (new, of course) to get a good work-out and help the environment but you find you don’t have enough horsepower to mow a yard your size.

So, when hubs announced that my father-in-law had fixed my mother’s old push mower (everything except the self-propel worked), I jumped at the chance to get it back and mow my grass.

I’m sure most of you are thinking I’m bonkers. I’m not going to argue with you, but I’m going to explain why this was such a big deal for me. (more…)
